EverWeb Widgets HTML5

Shiv or Shim?

HTML5Shiv is a javascript workaround, invented by Sjoerd Visscher, to enable styling of HTML5 elements in Internet Explorer V8 and older.
The number of people surfing the net with these ancient browsers is rapidly decreasing but some webmasters still feel the need to support them.
These instructions only apply to those who are using HTML5 elements to insert custom code via snippets.
NOTE: All the HTML5 layout, navigation and image widgets have the HTML5Shiv installed.

Download & Install The Shiv

Click this Download Link to get the file onto the destop and then drag it into the EverWeb Assets list.

The script is conditionally included in the head code using the code shown below...

<!--[if lt IE 9]><script src="html5shiv.min.js"></script><![endif]-->

Right (control) click it and select "Copy relative File Path" to copy it to the clipboard. Highlight the part of the code above - marked in red - and paste in the contents of the clipboard to replace it - command V.
This code should pasted into the site wide Head Code box in the Site Publishing Settings page if it is required on every - or most - of the pages of the site. Otherwise it can be pasted into the Head Code box in the Page inspector of every page where HTML5 widgets are used.

To Shiv Or Not To Shiv?

*Author's Opinion:
I started doing front end coding for responsive website a few years ago. These designs rely on media queries which are not supported in any version of Internet Explorer lower than V9.
I have also been using animations based on CSS3 transistions and keyframes for quite a while and these need IE V10 or greater to work.
The number of people surfing the net on mobile devices is now greater than those using computers and any of these devices which don't support HTML5 aren't worth having - if there are any at all!
