Vimeo and YouTube Code & Parameters

Setting up for Vimeo and YouTube movies is virtualy the same since both use an iframe code. The only difference is the actual URL and the quality of the player. Vimeo looks at lot better!

The code is shown in the box below.

<iframe src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/M7lc1UVf-VE?autoplay=0;autohide=1" width="640" height="390" style="margin:0;padding:0px;border:none" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Finally, the code is pasted into an HTML Snippet and the video should appear when the "Apply" button is clicked.

Adjust the snippet size using the Metrics inspector using the same values for video width and height in the iframe code.

Note that the same code works for BLIP TV too.

Click the Easy button to see the VeeTube widget which will create the code and allow the video to be inserted into a custom frame.

Let's go through the parameters...

src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/23778257?

src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/M7lc1UVf-VE?

The value for "src" is the same for any Vimeo or YouTube video except for the file identifier which, in this case, is 23778257 for Vimeo and M7lc1UVf-VE for Youtube.

There are quite a few parameters which must be separated by semicolons. 0 is off and 1 is on. Two of the most useful are...

autoplay=1 : autoplay when the video loads

autohide=1 : hides the controls after the video has started and reveals the on mouse over

Note that the last parameter has no semicolon after it.

Watch the movie on this page for more parameters and how to set them.

width="640" : the value for width is set to that of the video

height="480" : ditto for video height

The inline styles are a reset for the iframe to suit the HTML Snippet.

Delete allowfullscreen to remove the button from the controls which prevents your video being displayed full screen if the file resolution is not high enough.
